Tranquil Space Arlington Book Group – August 16

Aug 6, 2015 // by admin // Blog, books, DC, Yoga // No Comments

IMG_4239Take your yoga practice off the mat with the Tranquil Space Arlington Book Group, meeting next on Sunday, August 16, to discuss The Wisdom of No Escape and the Path of Loving-Kindness by Pema Chodron.

“This is the process of making friends with ourselves and with our world. It involves not just the parts we like, but the whole picture, because it all has a lot to teach us.” (page 23)

“On the other hand, you could just relax and realize that, behind all the worry, complaint, and disapproval that goes on in your mind, the sun is always coming up in the morning, moving across the sky, and going down in the evening.” (page 26)

“If people are willing even for one second a day to make an aspiration to use their own pain and pleasure to help others, they are actually able to do it that much more. As you become more fearless, your bodhicitta will ripen with each day of your life, which will be of great benefit to others.” (page 64)

The Wisdom of No Escape and the Path of Loving-Kindness is a collection of talks written and given by Pema Chodron. It’s a book that I have continued to come back to since my yoga teacher training. It is full of many truths that I often know and always seem to find I need to be reminded.

Join us on August 16th at 7:30 PM in the Tea Lounge (at our Arlington studio) to enjoy tea, cookies, and lively conversation. All are welcome (reading of the entire book in advance is not required to join the discussion)! This is a free event and pre-registration is not required.

Can’t make this meeting, we hope you’ll join us then for our last meeting in 2015 when we discuss the following:

  • November 15, 2015 - Core of the Yoga Sutras: The Definitive Guide to the Philosophy of Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar

All meetings occur from 7:30 PM-8:30 PM on the specified date. We hope that you’ll join us for tea, cookies, and cOMmunity.

Tranquil Space Arlington Book Group Meeting – November 16th

Nov 6, 2014 // by admin // Blog, books, Yoga // 1 Comment

Take your yoga practice off the mat with the Tranquil Space Arlington Book Group, meeting next on Sunday, November 16, to discuss  Journey Into Power by Baron Baptiste.

It all starts in your body, on the mat. (page 19)

“Now here” or “nowhere.” Interesting, isn’t it, how the only difference, really is a little extra space. (page 33)

The edge is where we come right up against ourselves and what we can do and be. It is the boundary between where we are and where we grow, the place of comfortable discomfort, where all growing and healing happens. The edge is the point in every pose when you are still within your capacities but challenging yourself to go just a little bit farther. Stepping up to this edge and daring to leap is how you break through and thus break with old ways of being. (page 29)

Journey Into Power provides insights into body, mind, and spirit helping us to tap into the deepest parts of the self. The book is a blend of philosophy and asana, including alignment fundamentals and explanations for why we do certain poses. If you are interested in taking your yoga practice deeper on and off the mat, this is a must read book.

Join us on November 16th at 7:30 PM in the Tea Lounge (at our Arlington studio) to enjoy tea, cookies, and lively conversation. All are welcome (reading of the entire book in advance is not required to join the discussion)! This is a free event and pre-registration is not required.

Can’t make this meeting, we hope you’ll join us in 2015 when we discuss the following:

  • February 15, 2015 - The Radiance Sutras: 112 Gateways to the Yoga of Wonder and Delight interpreted by Lorin Roche
  • May 17, 2015 - Original Yoga: Rediscovering Traditional Paths of Hatha Yoga by Richard Rosen
  • August 16, 2015 - The Wisdom of No Escape and the Path of Loving Kindness by Pema Chodren
  • November 15, 2015 - Core of the Yoga Sutras: The Definitive Guide to the Philosophy of Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar

All meeting occur from 7:30 PM-8:30 PM on the specified date. We hope that you’ll join us for tea, cookies, and cOMmunity.
