About Lisa

Lisa grew up near the top of the jersey shore in New Jersey, in a Roman Catholic family. At a young age, her mother put her into ballet and tap. This was her first taste of physical fitness and she always enjoyed it. She wasn’t an athlete growing up. Lisa dabbled for a very short period of time in high school with running, but running didn’t appeal to her like it did to others, so she stopped and went back to dancing.

She moved to Washington, DC when she went to college to study accounting. Lisa had always known she was going to be an accountant. With a growing interest in health and fitness, throughout college, she took health and fitness classes to fill in some of the non-accounting requirements for the CPA exam. She first started to explore yoga and meditation in her Strategies of Stress Management class during her senior year of college. On and off over the next few years, she would practice yoga at home using videos to guide her or try to utilize the deep breathing exercises she’d learned to help her sleep. In that same period, she found herself in the gym doing cardio and weight training as tools to help with stress management and weight control.

As the stress of work and life increased, Lisa decided to return to the mat and see if a consistent yoga practice could help her reduce her stress and stay fit. She found clarity of mind, relaxation, and community, with the added bonuses of a physically fit and toned body and a reduced stress level. From that moment that she stepped on her mat again, she knew a lifelong change had occurred and a new passion had been found. Lisa found her yoga home at Tranquil Space in Washington, DC, where she connected with the fluidity of the vinyasa style they teach. Having a strong desire to share her passion for yoga with others, she completed Tranquil Space’s 200-hour teacher training in the winter of 2011 and became a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. She now teaches a regular weekly class at Tranquil Space and subs for other teachers at the studio, as needed. Lisa also looks for opportunities to share yoga with the broader community and use yoga as a means of giving back to others.

Lisa completed her 500-hour yoga teaching training at Tranquil Space in December 2012.

Off the mat, Lisa has a bachelors of science degree in accountancy and is a certified public accountant. During the day, she works in auditing standards-setting. She is also an auntie of 2 adorable little boys and a beautiful little girl, a knitter, a crocheter, a sewer, an amateur photographer, and an active alumni in her business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. Lisa visits her family, including those adorable nephews and niece, in NJ as often as possible.

Your life, where you are, as you are, is the only paradise you will ever find.
Stop judging it as right or wrong, good or bad, and you'll meet it face-to-face. Attend to it, and it will flourish.
